Crepe Saree

Crepe, also known as crape, is featured with wrinkled surface, and is either woven or knitted fabric. With crispy and crimpy appearance, crepe is a silk fabric that has a gauzy texture.

The fabric has yarns with high twists that give a crimped effect. Under natural or gum conditions, hard spun silk yarn is used to weave the crepe. These crimped effects are produced by S and Z twist.

There are few types of crepe like moss crepe, pebble crepe, Marocain, Crepe-back stain, Crepe de chine, and so on.

Soft, Canton, or Oriental crape, and hard or crisped crape are two distinct varieties of crape.

Crêpe de Chine, known as Chinese crêpe is otherwise known as thin crêpe. The weft is prepared in such a peculiar way that the Canton crape gets a wavy appearance. The two bobbins’ yarns are twisted together in a reverse way.

The crape appearance would not be present in the fabric after weaving. Moreover, it gets the smooth and even look. However, the gum extracted by boiling makes it soft.

The weft loses its twist and the fabric gets a waved structure which is a distinguishing feature of it.

For scarves and shawls, bonnet trimmings, and so on, Canton crapes are used. Moreover, they are available in both white and other colors.

The hard crape gets it crisp and elastic structure due to the processes through which the gauze passes after weaving it, and not by spinning or weaving.

Moss crepe or Pebble crepe, a woven fabric is characterized by grainy surface and often a spongy hand and made with high twist yarn in a crepe weave.

This crepe is used in women's suits, dresses and so on. Marocain, a woven crepe fabric that is characterized by a wavy rib effect in the weft that results from the use of high twist yarns.

This crape is used in women's dresses, suits and so on.
