Crepe, also known as crape, is featured with wrinkled surface, and is either woven or knitted fabric. With crispy and crimpy appearance, crepe is a silk fabric that has a gauzy texture.
The fabric has yarns with high twists that give a crimped effect. Under natural or gum conditions, hard spun silk yarn is used to weave the crepe. These crimped effects are produced by S and Z twist.
There are few types of crepe like moss crepe, pebble crepe, Marocain, Crepe-back stain, Crepe de chine, and so on.
Soft, Canton, or Oriental crape, and hard or crisped crape are two distinct varieties of crape.
Crêpe de Chine, known as Chinese crêpe is otherwise known as thin crêpe. The weft is prepared in such a peculiar way that the Canton crape gets a wavy appearance. The two bobbins’ yarns are twisted together in a reverse way. |
